Centre of my attention
Many elderly at Abtswoude, a residential building in Delft, and in the Netherlands feel less and less the urge to leave their house and don’t mind to be alone. The danger however, is in getting too lonely. But how to reach them?
What I designed?
In order to enlarge the social contacts of the elderly, they each receive a Tellie. This device meets the elderly’s requirements: it’s simple and the appearance doesn’t scare them.
A so called care-student, assigned to the elderly, has the Tellie Application. With the device and app, the student and elderly can easily send voice messages back and forth.
In this course, your were free to pick your own topic. The focus was on choosing a current interaction, in my case an interaction that wasn’t there yet, and by going through a lot of explorations create a design that would lead to the interaction your target group desired.
Multiple interviews and explorative prototype cycles with the elderly and students living in Abtswoude lead from an assumption-based problem statement to a thought through changemaker: the final Tellie message system with the Tellie device and application.
Why I designed this
My design tries to create the ideal atmosphere to start connecting. It gives them the chance to grow a continuous and stable relationship and therefor to enlarge the social contacts of the elderly.
